what about people who leave kudos instead of comments

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Kudos are good too of course but like an anon said the other day, she's a fangirl who can't NOT leave a comment because she's full of feels and has stuff to say. People who click the kudos button could just be like "meh, well, it was well written" or they could be thinking "holy shit that was fantastic" and there's no way to know. I wish more people would take the time to leave comments, even if they don't say much.

But OP's logic doesn't just assume that kudos are "meh"

it assumes that people who leave kudos rather than comments actively think OP sucks at writing

...which doesn't make sense. If I read something that sucks -- or start to read it and then go away -- I'm not going to even kudos it. But maybe some people kudos everything they click on, idk

Sometimes people kudos to encourage growth in a fandom. They may not have particularly liked the fic but they want writers in the fandom to feel like they're appreciated so that they don't get disheartened and move on to greener pastures.

Unless I'm way more tired than I thought I was, OP doesn't mention kudos at all. If OP believes that people who don't comment think they suck, I don't think it follows that they think that people who don't comment but do leave kudos think they suck.

I guess that's probably what they meant, yeah

To me, it feels like "people who don't comment but do leave kudos" is logically going to be a part of "people who don't comment"? Like, whether or not they leave kudos, they do not leave comments. I guess that's where I was coming from - if your attitude is that comments are the only thing that indicates that people think your work is better than absolute shit... well, i guess there's a lot of reasons that's not true, but one of those is kudos.

NAYRT

It doesn't assume that. It altogether disregards people who leave kudos rather than comments. Which I can understand because kudos are pretty meaningless.
