I’ll never understand why authors view this as a reflection of their skills. Fandom is clearly all about pairings/tropes/kinks/content over skill.

That said, I feel your pain and don’t post my smut anymore for this reason. Or if I do, I totally half ass it rather than taking time to make it fantastic like I used to.

Doesn't smut ALWAYS get more comments & kudos though? Even half-assed smut would probably do better than a well-written genfic.

Not necessarily. In some fandoms people don't kudos/comment on porn because they don't want people to know they're reading it.

Smut is all I read and write, so I couldn’t say how it compares. I get a fair amount of kudos, but kudos aren’t very motivational for me.
