(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 02:36 am (UTC)(link)There's one particularly who always wants to talk if we're both in the common areas even though I'm working at a computer, which I wish would be enough to deter them but no such luck. I don't...not like them, but I'm also not the type to make friends with co-workers and prefer to keep my work and personal life separate. I guess at times I'm off-put by what they talk about sometimes, like it seems inappropriate for a work environment but I can't pinpoint any other reason than "I don't want to hear you talk about x, y, and z while we're here," and with me being as private as I am that's a lot of things. But in-team gossip has it they're not well-liked by some co-workers, to the point one person waited in the break room until they heard I wasn't talking to this particular co-worker. So I guess I figure if others don't want to talk to them, I can handle being someone to vent to, especially if they think the little conversing I do is enjoyable. I do think they might like me somewhat though, so it's awkward.
I'm honestly probably closest to my supervisor. I think a lot has to do with how understanding and accommodating she is about everything. One time my nephew swallowed a battery and I wasn't sure if I was going to come in. I did, though a tad late, and she and I e-mailed about the situation which put me at better ease. I'm also oddly more comfortable in work interactions with people higher up than me because there's a clear hierarchy and I know who to defer to because I'm a natural follower.
