I've been in fandom twelve years. I reckon one comment per hundred hits is good going; one kudos in ten hits likewise. If it drops significantly below that I'm pretty much, "OK then" and I'm out of that fandom. Damned if I'm going to spend months researching and writing the best fic I can write for a few "meh, I finished it" kudos.

But I'm a grumpy old woman.

I turned off hit counts because I think a lot of those are bots or people hitting the back button for whatever reason that has nothing to do with the fic. Not a good way to judge readership... especially when it gets you down on writing :(
