Argh, I hope nothing ever tops this because I might implode to try and escape the squirming awkwardness, but I’ve been going to Ssn Diego Comic Con since, idk, 2004? And before all the bigger panel discussions that end with a Q&A session, the moderator or someone will do a quick “be polite, please no creepy questions, we want these people to come back next year” spiel.

One time some dude went selectively deaf during that part, asked an actress if she would star in a script he was writing especially for her, would she care to meet with him after... cue 1000 people booing and them cutting the mike.

SDCC doesn’t clear the rooms between panels. If there’s something popular you want to see, resign yourself to sitting through stuff you know nothing about. Bring a book or something.

I forget what I’d been waiting to see. But I remember sitting through the first Twilight movie panel. I work for a library so I’d read the first couple of books for the same reason I read Dan Brown; patrons ask what we think of the popular stuff. I went, okay, paranormal romance for teens, dynamic between the lovers was a bit creepy and off, whatever, at least they weren’t as bad as Eragon. Maybe they’d make better films than books, I want to see the other stuff afterwards, how bad can it be?

I thought I was prepared. I wasn’t. These were the most OTT, no respect for the actors, no self control, no dignity group of fans I have ever seen, to this day. EVERY SINGLE QUESTION was just HOLY SHIT. I wanted to melt through the floor. “What kind of underwear do you have on?” “Do you like older women?” “What’s it like being the sexiest man in the world?” And every time, every. single. time. the main actor opened his mouth to say anything, 5,000 or so of the 6,500 people in the room would SCREAM. I can only assume the other 1,500 were rooted to their seats in horror like I was.

I went from not caring one way or another about Twilight except being pissed that the hardbacks fell apart so fast to cringing when anyone checked one out. One time a middle-aged woman with an Edward sweatshirt, his giant pouty face taking up her entire torso, was pushing a stroller past the circ desk and my first thought was “was she in that room? Did she lower her voice to sound seductive as she asked that poor bastard what underwear he had on?”

Oh geez. I loved Twilight back in the day (and to be honest, I still enjoy it all except Breaking Dawn), but the fandom had a super loud, aggressively creepy section to it that really made me want to distance myself from it. I would've died from horror if I'd been at that panel. Some things you only discuss among other fans and you never, ever bring it up to the people involved in bringing the thing you love to life.

OH My Lord. I would have died in my seat. I can't watch any actor panels on YouTube because of these types of questions. ﹰIt just makes me cringe. Like...people asking these questions make the rest of the fans look type batshit. Please...control yourself. Because if some rando asked you these questions, you'd file harassment. People seem to to get actors are people too. The stupid cult of celebrity smh

I can't afford to go to cons that invite bigger-name actors (partly because I live nowhere near SDCC or Dragon Con) but even the D-listers can get weird fans and awkward questions.

Haha. Oh god. My friend asked me to go to a Supernatural con with her once. I wasn't even really aware of the fandom because apparently I was living under a nice, safe rock.

They asked the actors questions about the brother characters doing the do.

I definitely get the feeling you describe of wanting to melt through the floor.
