What was the last thing you bought that you didn't mean to?

I went to Bath and Bodyworks to buy some giftcards for my mom/sister for Mother's Day. There were a ton of people there and I was rushing. The cashier said something about because I spent $30 I could get this tote. I thought it was one of those free gifts and told her okay.

It was actually a $30 tote they had for Mother's Day! Well, I wasn't going to not buy it after saying yes. So I guess I will keep it for my little sister's birthday in August. :P

I was babysitting my friend's son and went to Target to pick up a few things. He asked for a box of Uncrustables and I told him I'd think about it. He put it in my basket and I figured I'd put them back once he got distracted (he's at that stage where he gets really whiny and shrieky if told no and I had a headache, so I didn't want to deal with the screaming), but I forgot and didn't realize my mistake until I got to the car. On the plus side, I'm his new favorite person, but my friend wasn't too pleased because she doesn't want him to eat things with too much sugar in them.

Last time was probably when I bought a $12 print at a store at the Omaha airport selling local artists' work. I quite like it (although I currently have nowhere to hang it) but it was a pretty frivolous, spur of the moment thing after I'd been talking to the guy running the store and leaving without buying anything felt awkward. I was annoyed at myself at the time because I was trying to save money for something that it turned out wasn't going to be necessary after all, so I've since forgiven myself.

The most infamous and costly time for me was when I wound up buying a $270 alpaca/wool jacket at this little store with no one else in it and a with little old sales lady who seemed really desperate for a sale. That was about 4 years ago and I love the jacket and wear it all the time when the weather is right, so I'd say I got my money's worth after all. I was just utterly shocked with myself at the time because I'd never spent that much on something I didn't strictly *need* (although I was without a good spring/fall jacket at the time, but it's not like there aren't cheaper jackets in the world) without putting a lot more thought into it. I've never done it since, either.
