Public transportation in your hometown

Yesterday many people mentioned how the public transportation is horrible in many US cities.

What's the situation in your hometown? Would you be able to go about your daily business without a car, just by using public transportation or a bike? My town (I live in Europe) has pretty good bus lines, plenty of cycle paths and trains going to nearby cities, so a car wouldn't be obligatory.

I went to Bath and Bodyworks to buy some giftcards for my mom/sister for Mother's Day. There were a ton of people there and I was rushing. The cashier said something about because I spent $30 I could get this tote. I thought it was one of those free gifts and told her okay.

It was actually a $30 tote they had for Mother's Day! Well, I wasn't going to not buy it after saying yes. So I guess I will keep it for my little sister's birthday in August. :P

How in the hell do you figure out where each hotel is located and how close they are to various attractions? I am thinking of taking my nephew next year (or in 2020) so I wanted to just get a vague idea of prices.

I don't want the most expensive hotel but I don't want one that is gong to make it take a while to get to the park. Or all of them in the park?
