A romance one-shot set in the edo period in japan, where they slept in a bed with a 'doonah.'

We spell it "doona" though.

Idk where the fancy h is coming from but it can fuck right off.

Aww, that's kind of hilarious and oddly sweet.

Celebrating the fourth of July in fic set in the UK probably will never be beat for me.

That's pretty funny! (Although, I've come across things kind of like that and realized it was supposed to be an American AU of something British, just not well marked.)

maybe they were celebrating it because they really hate Americans

.......but celebrating would mean they were happy that the US beat the UK....?

Right, which meant that America wasn't part of Britain anymore, which would be good news for people who hated America (or at least that's the joke I was going for)

When everyone of African descent is "African American" even when they aren't American. As an American, I get how that's what we're trained to say, but I don't get how the "American" part doesn't grate on the speaker/author and they realize their goof.

I have a RL story about this! One day I was taking a walk in the park and heard someone shout angrily: "I'm not black, I'm African American!"

I couldn't see the guy through the trees and I don't go looking for angry shouting people, but I was really confused because we don't live anywhere near America (there's a whole ocean between us), the guy was speaking the language of the country (which is most definitely not English), and he had a really thick regional accent that made it obvious that he was a local.

Maybe he was just being a smartass? Or possibly rehearsing a play (I dunno, it could happen).

I still crack up when I remember the Chinese martial art-trained Bennet Sisters in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies using katanas, a Japanese sword. It wouldn't be so egregious if their rivals didn't constantly boast about the superiority of their own Japanese training, only to eventually be outdone by Elizabeth and her super awesome Chinese katana skills. Priceless.
