When everyone of African descent is "African American" even when they aren't American. As an American, I get how that's what we're trained to say, but I don't get how the "American" part doesn't grate on the speaker/author and they realize their goof.

I have a RL story about this! One day I was taking a walk in the park and heard someone shout angrily: "I'm not black, I'm African American!"

I couldn't see the guy through the trees and I don't go looking for angry shouting people, but I was really confused because we don't live anywhere near America (there's a whole ocean between us), the guy was speaking the language of the country (which is most definitely not English), and he had a really thick regional accent that made it obvious that he was a local.

Maybe he was just being a smartass? Or possibly rehearsing a play (I dunno, it could happen).
