I think that's a combination of:

1) people really identifying with the villain
2) bringing some of their own emotional baggage into the ship
3) not being very creative writers

Especially #3.

Hehe, I think you nailed it.

I am willing to adjust to villain viewpoints, like Loki's in earlier MCU works, or Erik's here. But man, your writing better be damn good.

Because sometimes what people want and enjoy isn't particularly fresh or original? And that's fine. But it's like eating PB&J every single day for lunch because you like it. That's great! But there's no question that this choice is not creative.
