I just don't get how it's called Eurovision but yet countries who are not a part of Europe can still participate.

See? You don't get it.

DA

Oh wow! A poor name choice means they don’t understand the concept! Shocking.

It's not a poor name choice. The competition started as specifically European countries. Then other countries wanted to join much later, but the brand is so well known that there was no point changing the name. I don't get what's so confusing about that.

It’s not confusing. Ridiculously Eurocentric with the paper-thin justification that it’s “too hard” to make the name more reflective of the more diverse nature of the competition? Sure, but no one expects any better from you people these days.

"you people"? Because the US is so good at diversity. Suuure. The non Europeans taking part are white.

Anyone who is under the European broadcasting standards (so areas near Europe like North Africa, parts of the Middle East and a few former Soviet republics) can be in it. But most of the Arab countries won't be in it because they'd have to broadcast Israel's song. And Australia has enthusiastically stanned for Eurovision since the 70s so they eventually let us in.

I don't think most Australians (including me) understand why we're in Eurovision, but what the hell...

*cough*World series?*cough*

I mean.

Also, like, EVERYONE was making that "er, just saying, since when is Isral in Europe lol" pointed question, and definitely enjoying being snide and Observant in a public status rather than going to find out....
