Hanami!

I've always loved this idea:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanami

tl;dr - The Japanese tradition of having a picnic under the cherry trees in order to view the blossoms and generally have fun. If you could do this with anyone, living or dead, fictional or real, who would it be and what would you have in your picnic basket?

Real life hanami are crowded drunken booze fests. I like the idea of a sweet picnic under the cherry blossoms and feeling quiet and zen.

I would have this fantasy version of hanami party with several of my favorite Roman emperors.

ooh, which emperors? Do you think they'd all get along?

Hadrian would be the top invite (and his boyfriend Antinous). Hadrian's definitely my favorite! But all the Five Good Emperors would be invited. Marcus Aurelius for sure. I also rather like Julian the Apostate, kind of interesting to think where things would be religiously if he hadn't died in battle so soon.

Would they get along? Not sure about that, haha, that's a whole lotta emperor on one picnic blanket. As a bonus, I'm also a big Alexander the Great fan.

It would be a pretty interesting hanami...

I was just about to reply Lucius Cornelius Sulla to this question. lol.

He'd probably prefer the drunken booze fest, though. Also the picnic basket would have a gun or some kind of weapon just in case.

I recently read a blurb in a book that said pre-Tokugawa-era, the Japanese nobility also took baths during hanami. Like, they had their retinue bring portable bathtubs and legit had a long luxurious soak under the sakura.

I'd rather do that by myself than have a picnic with literally anyone.

I like this idea a lot, especially if it still involves a picnic while I'm in the bath!

Damn, I'd better get a time machine ready sometime soon...

You wouldn't be by yourself - you'd need servants to carry the tub. Maybe they can go hide in the bushes while you bathe.

If I could have a hanami picnic with anyone, it would be my grandma and I would have lots of handmade cookies, cakes, and sandwiches. She would always make me food when I was little, but she died before I was old enough to cook on my own and I'd want to show her that I remembered what she taught me.

That's a wonderful idea.
