I'd say it possibly varies depending on the age of the person saying it. For example, I'd broadly call myself a DC fan, but it wasn't the comics that I got into, it was the cartoons. Because I grew up in the 90s/00s and the DCAU was my absolute jam as a kid. It was only as I got older that I started reading the comics too, focusing mainly on Justice League and, yes, Batman titles.

I'd also consider myself an X-men fan to a more limited extent, again because the 90s X-men cartoon was the boss, but I found the X-men comics a lot harder and more confusing to get into, so I never went as far into Marvel comics. My cousin was a massive Spiderman fan so I read a bit of his collection, but to be honest it never really stuck.

Fandomwise, DC was one of my first proper fandoms, and I was in the MCU fandom in the earlier phases (up to Avengers 1). I just burn out a lot quicker on superheroes in movies than I do in other media.

So, going back to my first point, age may be a factor here.
