Also, I think one of the big things about Thanos is he was mad that his world did not go with his plan. So he is DETERMINED to prove his plan works.

This. He's entirely focused. He's never considered other alternatives because he's become obsessed with this plan. The idea of using the stones for anything else hasn't even occurred to him because his mind is so obsessed and totally focused on the plan he has.
