They usually turn out to have serious issues themselves, the people who become Single Issue Wonks about it. They either have a connection as a victim/close to someone who was, or they're desperately repressing their own urges. They're the ones with the horrified fascination with the topic, and that's why they watch it for us, so we don't have to...

And yeah, antis refusing to recognize adult or nearly adult, characters as adults means they're taking the agency away from those characters and/or viewers of the same age who just want to watch some romance. Age of consent exists for a reason, but there's also a reason why we let 16 year olds drive cars but 12 year olds absolutely are not allowed to.

Someone with no room for that nuance...is headed down a dangerous road.
