idk, immortality is a bit of a double-edged sword. you get to see and do a lot of cool shit, but making friends with mortals is heartbreaking

and what if you like. seriously hate most of your people? the other immortals? unless they're slain, you're stuck knowing they're still out there, existing. you can go be a hermit somewhere but man, you're immortal and alone.

Living for thousands of years is a lot more shitty than the label on the tin implied. I already hate every other sentient living being at 40, I can't imagine what having to deal with them for 5000 years would be like.

That and, given that half the elves still in Middle-Earth in the Third Age are stupid exiled Noldor, there's a good chance that if you're an elf you're a cursed elf dealing with the sins of your father and nobody likes being denied Elf Heaven because dad did some shit back in his day. And if you're Noldorin, everybody you care about dies in some horrible tragic fashion. So now now you have 5000 years of grief on top of the immortality.

Primarily? Other elves. Also periodic evils and idiot mortals wrecking your shit every other week, but mostly it's the elves. Hell is other people, and immortality is special hell with other people.
