Re: What is something mostly inconsequential \that you with people knew?

I agree, and I also find that people have no idea how to read cat expressions or understand cat body language. I think cat "language" often pings to the human brain as haughty, bitchy, or aggressive when it isn't. For example, cats "glaring" at you - looking at you with half-lidded eyes - is basically the cat smiling, and people don't get that.

People can also be way too loud and aggressive around cats in a way that might be playful to a dog, but freaks a cat out.

Yup. And even people who have had cats before can forget these things. Some cats are very cuddly. Some cats are lap cats. But many aren't. Many don't do well with a whole lot of contact. They show love by looking at you and by wanting to be near you. My cat doesn't do much touch, but she sleeps on the end of my bed and will follow me around the house and settle herself down near me. So I know she loves me. I don't need to force something she doesn't want.

Exactly. If a cat wants your attention and love, it will let you know :p.

you have to be willing to read and accept cats' moods.

Exactly. And to do that, you have to understand cat language. Even cats who you think are acting like dogs are speaking cat. They are just a cuddly cat, a lap cat. But their language is still cat.
