Who?????

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You shouldn't feel bad, OP. As long as you're not the one doing the stalking and are respecting his boundaries, you're fine.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Crush away, OP :). He sounds like a cool guy judging from your description, so I don't blame you for being a little smitten.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
A crush is a crush.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kinda hard to tell what's going on, but is OP saying that they've always had crushes on fictional characters until they started crushing on the actor themselves? Halp.

But either way, OP, if it helps you can gauge your own feelings on the matter by asking yourself how much of your attraction comes from the actor's looks, and how much comes from their personal aspects. I will admit that I've fallen for certain actors' looks (going so far to track down what movies they've starred in), but I make myself feel better knowing that sometimes physical attraction happens and it's okay. There's a good amount of distance I'm keeping, and I'm not harming anyone.

Maybe it's the same for you? If you're not doing any harm, then no worries?

I had to read it a couple of times, but yes. OP has always had crushes on characters until now, when they have a crush on an actor.

ITA with everything else you said. Right there with you!

OP

Sorry for confusing you with my secret, I should have worded it better xD

If it was just his looks, then I'd probably stick with the character that started the crush, but it turns out he's just this amazing person (and he doesn't even seem to know how brilliant he is, I hate him). I know my stupid crush is not harming anyone, but still I keep feeling like a big ol' creep.

There's nothing wrong with having a celebrity crush. I'm pretty sure practically everyone has them. The people who act like uncivilized stalker creeps are horrible, but most people including obviously you don't act like that. So there's nothing you've done wrong and no reason to have second-hand guilt just because you're attracted to someone who happens to also have crazy fans. You aren't one of the crazy fans. You're just a regular person who happens to find a celebrity attractive.

I hate secrets like this. I want to give the OP the benefit of the doubt and that they are embarrassed about naming names. But part of me thinks that they are leaving out details to generate more interest in their secret.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes people leave out details to generate more discussion, and that's a good thing, because it keeps the community alive.

In this particular case, who the celebrity is can kill any discussion in a major way. 9/10 times if OP names the celebrity, the comments will just be wank over whether or not he's a hideous extraterrestrial, or whether or not he actually has the great personality OP claims he does, etc. If OP keeps it vague there's a chance that the discussion might actually be an interesting one on the ethics of celebrity crushes.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
And what if they are?

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually am embarrassed about naming names, but also I didn't want people to discuss whether or not he really is as lovely as I claim him to be (because he really is).

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
That's perfectly okay and you're fine, op. I'm not even going to add a "...as long as you're not doing X" disclaimer because I think that sounds really presumptuous as if people are dying for a chance to be judgmental and lecture others on Proper Fandom Behavior. You're not doing anything wrong.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't tend to crush on actors either, but I think this is entirely harmless - that's what their entire public persona is for! It's the people that can't be satisfied with the public part who get creepy, not you.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm more concerned about the way you talk about him, you seem a tad too smitten for your own good. I also doubt he's all that perfect as you're making him up to be.

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to be concerned about me, anon, it's really just a crush. A huge crush, but nothing to worry about. And I never said he was perfect, he's just a person, flawed and wonderful and complicated like anyone else (from what I've gathered, at least), but his personality and talent make me weak in the knees.
