They might very well know that they're being somewhat ridiculous, but that doesn't mean that they're not sincere. Knowing that something is ridiculous isn't necessarily the same as irony.

And even if they know that "I started to like India at least a little" is a completely fucking ridiculous thing to say, they still said it.
