Speaking as someone who went in (as only a fan of the first movie/no comic knowledge) dreading the ship but came out shipping it, I say major props to the writers. I loved the entire way the movie was handled.

My thing is, I don't get people expecting more. He has a girlfriend. He spends much of 2 mourning her death. He isn't going to be sleeping with men or dating them all of a sudden any more than he's going to be sleeping with any other women who aren't the woman he loves.

A huge portion of his relationship with her was based in humour too, though. The way they got together in the first place was just a long line of one-liners/raunchy humour, so I'm not actually seeing all that much difference in the way he flirts with dudes?

I don't think the death of his girlfriend in itself has anything to do with his sexuality, though. It was just a lazy way to get the plot started.

He’s canonically unconcerned about what’s in a potential partner’s pants so, like, his existence in a movie at all is representation of some kind. Just bc he’s not actively boning anyone else doesn’t change the fact that he still flirts (in his established, joking way); other people not taking the bait isn’t doesn’t invalidate his canon orientation but all the bitching about how it’s not rep enough kind of does imo. And I say this as a bi/pan person myself.

I mean don’t get me wrong I’d love to see some cablepool cock hockey too but wade is still not straight regardless.

People are never going to be happy about representation until the entire film is an orgy with Deadpool fucking everything that isn't bolted down. It's getting tiring. There is not a single work that can cater to every special snowflake, and there never will be. Partly because the special snowflakes want to be catered to instead of getting their entitled asses into gear and creating something meaningful instead of complaining non stop.
