I got the same situation about Utena - the series bore me immensely with all its mindless shoujou-ness and I dropped it after 5 episodes, but the opening song was kinda cool.

And now that I'm writing it, I also recall that the last filler arc of Naruto (pre-Shippuden) sucked a lot, yet it had the coolest ninja opening ever.
