I... kind of... liked that plotline?

OP here: I know what you mean! I'm kinda guiltily starting to like it too (how much of that is because it's Everett McGill or how much I like Ed's character is up to debate). And yet I remember nothing about this plotline from my first time watching the show. What the hell!

Overlooking how much in bad taste romantic cheating would be IRL and instead be more favorable to the story, I think Ed and Norma's relationship ties both into the overall theme that the town of Twin Peaks is full of secrets, and how love can save you. Not gonna lie, there is also something appealing about seeing a-person-of-few-words Ed be in love. ;)

I think it was interesting to me because it really felt like it wasn't anyone's fault. It was 3 people being in a profoundly unhappy situation and trying to do the best they could not to hurt anyone.

And yes, I do agree about the person-of-few-words being in love part. I love that dynamic.
