Re: OTPs
(Anonymous) 2018-06-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)Molly Grue/Schmendrick. Childhood pairing, this. Again, people willing to both argue with each other and sacrifice for each other, but with these two there was also the comparison between them and Lir/Amalthea, the feeling of something simpler, more worn, more battered, and more enduring. No mystic love story, but a stubborn ex-bandit and an idiot magician doing their best for each other and everyone around them. They made me feel safe as a kid.
Rick Blaine/Louis Renault. I developed a bit of a fondness over the years for morally ambigous people inspiring something a little less tawdry in each other, and this was probably one of the earlier examples. They were both at their worst at the start of the movie, and by the end of it they've both risked their lives for something brighter than themselves, and in Louis' case largely because of Rick. I always liked that.
Rick O'Connell/Evelyn Carnahan. Because they were the most goddamn fun to watch happen. They're just amazing. She has all this passion, drive and curiosity, and he has all these street smarts and dry wit and willingness to roll with everything she does. They're so stupidly in love, and they stay stupidly in love, and they gleefully tackle mummies and the occasional apocalypse together. They're the best.
