I use my bookmarks as a reading list, not a list of things I want to re-read into eternity. If I like the fic when I've actually read it through, I'll comment on it, but I don't actually have anything to say yet.

AO3 literally has a "mark for later button" specifically for that purpose.

That feature is a pain in the ass.

How so?

It doesn't always register, and when it does, there's often a delay before the list updates. (The official documentation claims up to 30 minutes. The official documentation is wildly optimistic.) It also pushes a random assortment of links to your dash, which I just find irritating and cluttery.

If I use my bookmarks, it updates right away, I don't have to go back and double-check later and hope I don't brainfart and close the page, and everything's kept neat and organized in one place where I can go and choose what to read at leisure and don't have to worry about having a random notification for that porn fic I was intending to read later pop up on my front page while I'm reading fic on my commute.

I have never had my read later list ever send me a notification about my list contents before...I didn't know that was a thing AO3 could do.
