I hate when people bookmark my fics without leaving a review. Surely if you liked it enough to read it over and over again, you can tell me what it is about it that you like so much so I can keep doing that thing!

Get over it tbh

I thought this was the place to talk about pet peeves. Is it not generally understood that pet peeves are kind of silly? I was merely responding in the spirit of the thread...

NAYRT

HDU. Don't bring your pet peeves into the pet peeves thread!

Doesn't "pet peeve" traditionally imply that it's something that you know is actually, rationally unimportant and minor?

Apparently not! 😂

So you're saying it's not a big deal, and there's nothing actually wrong with people not writing reviews?

it's often a to be read pile

a lot of people have no clue how to write reviews. trying to pinpoint exactly what they liked about something then being eloquent enough to properly explain why they liked it can be really difficult

Honestly, just someone telling me, "I really liked this! Gonna bookmark to read it again and again" would be a nice change of pace from the usual radio silence.

That's what kudos are for.

I use my bookmarks as a reading list, not a list of things I want to re-read into eternity. If I like the fic when I've actually read it through, I'll comment on it, but I don't actually have anything to say yet.

AO3 literally has a "mark for later button" specifically for that purpose.

That feature is a pain in the ass.

How so?

It doesn't always register, and when it does, there's often a delay before the list updates. (The official documentation claims up to 30 minutes. The official documentation is wildly optimistic.) It also pushes a random assortment of links to your dash, which I just find irritating and cluttery.

If I use my bookmarks, it updates right away, I don't have to go back and double-check later and hope I don't brainfart and close the page, and everything's kept neat and organized in one place where I can go and choose what to read at leisure and don't have to worry about having a random notification for that porn fic I was intending to read later pop up on my front page while I'm reading fic on my commute.

I have never had my read later list ever send me a notification about my list contents before...I didn't know that was a thing AO3 could do.
