What are your favorites? What ones do you hate?

Yes, I love them UNLESS they are gory ones like Hostel. I despise gore porn.

My favorite horror films are The Thing, It Follows, The Witch, Get Out, Train to Busan, Pontypool, and The Conjuring.

my fave horror movies are Psycho, Rosemary's Baby and Cabin in the Woods

I liked Cabin in the Woods the first time I saw it, but not so much the later times. But the other two are pretty good movies!

I love ones that are more about suspense than gore. Like The Others or The Orphanage. The Devil's Backbone. Things like that. (Ironically, I love NBC's Hannibal (obviously) but I had to hide my eyes a lot because of the excessive gore).

I can't believe I forgot to include The Orphanage in my list! Such a great ghost story.

I want to enjoy them, but I have a tough time being scared by fiction because my suspension of disbelief doesn't work for it

My favourite genre, so I have a lot of favourites. The Witch, Alien, The Ritual, It Follows, Eraserhead, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, The Descent, Dark Water and Oculus.

I saw A Quiet Place the other day which I was super hyped for. I didn't find it quite as amazing as a lot of people did but it was nicely done enough and had a few neat ideas.

ooo, I liked Oculus too! it's very underrated.

It was so goood. I love psychological/mindfuck stuff.

the mindfucky aspect of the movie could have been really cheesy but it wasn't, it was very well done.

The lightbulb/apple bit stayed with me for a while after. :(

I really like horror films, though I don't usually get scared by them (in the right mood, a good spooky one, like Ju-On can have me wary, though*). I'm not a fan of the 'found footage' genre as a whole - I've tried to watch several of the Paranormal Activity movies, but they alternately bored and annoyed me - though I did like Grave Encounters well enough.

I'm not a fan of torture porn, but I'm cool with gore - I like splatstick, and zombies, and slashers. Spooky is good. Bleak is good (such as Ju-On, where nothing will save you once you're cursed, or Sinister where doing what should have been the smart thing triggered the bad stuff). The villains/monsters getting clever when they kill is good (Jigsaw (although the only Saw movie I've liked was the first one, I like him on principle), Freddy Kreuger, the Ju-On curse). I like when they don't take themselves too seriously, but the humour needs to be right - straight up horror-comedies (Shaun of the Dead) generally get it right, but sometimes, when an otherwise serious horror movie tries to be funny, it frequently goes very wrong (Friday the 13th was particularly bad about this - although Jason X I felt hit the right tone).

* I watched it while I was sick with a lung infection once. It was both funny and extra-creepy when I made a sound identical to Kayako's death-rattle groan.

I couldn't get into the Paranormal Activity movies at all. if you can, try to find the Rifftrax versions, they're hilarious.

I really enjoyed Sinister. I don't usually notice music too much in horror films but some of the sounds in that film were genuinely haunting. This one in particular - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PgwXe6lAsQ

Terrible ones that I like anyway: Jaws 3-D, Once Bitten, Critters, Deep Blue Sea, DeepStar Six

If asked, I wouldn't say I actually like these, but I get sucked into watching if they're on: Lake Placid, Ghost Ship, Village of the Damned (1995)

Not a huge fan of too much gore, but the ones I really don't care for are the ones that are basically torture porn.

Though some specific ones that are actual terrible horror movies that I have seen: Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Jaws: The Revenge, Sleepwalkers, Dracula 2000, House of Wax (2005), Dreamcatcher, An American Werewolf in Paris
