I got to ask.

What about if fandom canon is really medically inaccurate? Because quite a few are and I'm not sure how fair it is to expect more from fanfic writers than actual professionals who are getting paid.

You know what? (Not OP though) IMO, if canon did it, fanfic writers are allowed to do it.

While lots of fans may *want* to fix canon, there's no actual obligation on the part of fans to do it. Sometimes the fun challenge of fanfic is working with the rules you've been given. A fanfiction which adheres perfectly to real world accuracy may be an objectively good story but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good *fanfic* if it's trying so hard to be realistic that everyone's OOC.

And, sometimes, the people complaining that authors are "getting it wrong" are wrong themselves. So it helps to weigh that possibility along with the feedback.

Do fanfic readers honestly think fanfic authors have all day to sit there researching their fics (usually wish fulfillment/fantasies, often porn) for no extra money and no hope of earning money on it in the future, in the vague hope that a random stranger will deign to click the Kudos button?

Yeah, in House fandom the fic was often far more accurate than the show, not just in medical terms but in terms of how a hospital works.
