Nothing was said about "not good enough." Just that Leia, while cool, wasn't the character type op "needed" as a kid. Op literally says that Leia is NOT the kind of patronizing fake girl power character they disliked, and that they like Leia but in a different way than Sam. You are inventing reasons to be outraged when there aren't any.

I'm not outraged. I just don't see any reason why OP couldn't have made the same point without Leia at all. It would've been stronger. I do feel the secret pits Leia versus Sam by suggesting Leia isn't a person first the way Sam is. That's completely unnecessary. Just say you like Sam.

Ditto.

By mentioning Leia, it immediately puts those fans on the defensive. There was no need to do that except to stir some shit up.

Probably because in today's Star Wars crazy environment, Leia seems to be the first word on everyone's lips when it comes to discussing inspirational/"feminist awakening" sci-fi characters? And because Star Wars fans have somehow as a fandom convinced ourselves that Star Wars is so progressive, when the OT was a product of the 70s/80s and it shows in the way it treats its female characters, Leia included?
