Re: The gripe thread

There's a youngling on a fanfiction discord I hang out on who irritates the shit out of me.

All day long they are asking for help with every line, every plot point, every bit of research. In a year of frequenting the discord, I've seen them help someone else, ONCE. A one line response, then, "Are you done?" because they wanted to people to help them with their fic again.

I realize that them asking so much gives other people the opportunity to help, but for the amount of handholding and coddling they get, every story ought to have 30 co-authors credited.

(I've already blocked them so that I won't see their posts, and I have adjusted the time I hang on the discord to hours when they're generally not active.)

And yes, I'm probably being unreasonable, but I was offered the change to gripe, and so I am griping.

This sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I hope someone sits them down and tells them how annoying this habit is and how they need to do more of their own work instead of bugging people all the time. This person is exactly the kind of person you hope not to get stuck with doing group work.
