I actually liked her as well, but I also have to admit that Christine is one of the two main characters it makes the most sense to have sound genuinely operatic. Since she's, you know, an actual opera singer. A novice one, yes, but still. Her and the Phantom are the two you'd think would need to sound the part, since the Phantom both trains singers and later performs on stage himself. And Carlotta to an extent. We're supposed to find Christine better than her, but Carlotta did manage to become Prima Donna at the opera house, so her singing can't be that bad. Everybody else is a ballerina or a nobleman or a manager, but those three actually are supposed to be opera-class singers.

Granted, this isn't actually an opera itself, it's a musical, so there's leeway. And you want the thing to sound unified, so everybody needs to be on a similar sort of level. I just find it a little bit funny that you picked the actual opera singer among the characters to criticise for sounding operatic.
