Why do small things set us off (vent)

(Anonymous) 2018-06-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I’ve been having a very bad last couple of weeks, and it feels like whenever I hope something will go well it just gets worse - but today I was finally paid so I finally had more than 75 cents in my account so I walked to the corner store to buy myself a cold soda, which I did... and then when I got it home and opened it it exploded, with lit literally shooting directly at my chest, all over my white shirt. So now I’m sobbing because I can’t even buy myself a fucking Dr Pepper without the universe finding some way to fuck it up for me. I really can’t do anything right! And I feel dumb for crying over a fucking soda but here we are.

Aw, anon. :( I really know that exact feeling. I'm really sorry, I know you could've used the boost and it really hurts to have the little things go wrong when there's so much else weighing you down. Try your best to keep the little things in perspective, and try to do something relaxing that you enjoy to put yourself in a better headspace.

There isn’t much I enjoy doing these days, which is part of the problem :(

Because it isn't just a small thing. It is a series of many small things but this one small thing was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I'm sorry nonnie. :(

It's just a small thing but it's that on top of everything else that does it, I've been there so I get it, but all the internet hugs your way if you need them.

I'm so sorry, anon. I'm the same right now. Having a terrible week, and everything is making me overreact. I hope you feel better and things go better soon. It is okay to react to things. Emotions add up, and it is perfectly normal for anger/pain/frustration/whatever from one thing to make you react to something else.

I’m sorry, anon, I know how it sucks when even the little things you do to cheer up backfire. You weren’t overreacting snd I hope an unexpected nice thing happens to you to make up for it.

{{{{hugs}}}}

It's just the last straw.

It happens, things just build up. Think of it as a pressure release (after a literal pressure release).

I have a story about soda. I don't know if will make you feel better or not. When I was a teenager I got a soda, in a can, from the pantry, and so far as I was aware, it had not been dropped or shaken or anything like that. I set it on the dining room table and opened it. It proceeded to shoot soda straight up to the ceiling where some of hit and then came back down to land in one of the fittings in the light fixture above the table causing the light bulb to flare, make a popping noise, and die. Everybody in the family proceeded to stare dumbfounded at first the ceiling, the light, the soda, then me. That stain on the textured white ceiling was still there when my family moved out of the house years later. I can still remember the shape of it.
