A confession I guess

(Anonymous) 2018-06-08 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I have bad teeth. It’s mostly my fault - I have bruxism which doesn’t help, but mostly I don’t take good care of them and eat too many sweets, but I’m trying to fix them. But I’m so goddamned ashamed of it - I cry after so many dentist appointments because even getting my problems fixed fills me with so much shame and embarrassment. Even just people knowing I’m going to the dentist makes me feel uncomfortable. Why does having bad teeth fuck with my head so much? I mean the anxiety disorder probably doesn’t help but like. :/

Honestly, nonny, these days I'm not sure I know anyone who hasn't had a cracked tooth, a root canal, a crown, or partial denture. Or at least some fillings. That probably doesn't help with your anxiety but you definitely aren't the first person to slack off, or have less than perfect teeth. And even with the best care, sometimes shit happens.

If you stress out a lot, have you tried things to reduce it? Meditation, yoga, a day off work/school (if possible)?

I feel you. I inherited my mother's thin enamel and I would do pretty much anything legal for perfectly straight white teeth. I have zero money for whitening and straightening them would mean headgear, not braces.
