in all seriousness, I don't ship Shuri with anybody and think Martin Freeman is as interesting as stale toast, but Shuri is the character he has emotional-validation-bonding moments with in the final climactic battle, when she guides him through flying the little fighter.

So if someone is a Freeman fan and looking for a Ross ship, there's more to go on there than there is for any other character. And people are looking for a Shuri ship, she doesn't really have extended sequences with anyone else except her brother, iirc. And Ross seems genuinely completely willing/happy to take directions from her, which is a nice contrast from M'Baku and Killmonger being threatening/dismissive in various ways. And between her fashion when T'Challa first returns to Wakanda and wanting to see Coachella etc, Shuri seems really interested in the world outside Wakanda, and possibly in meeting someone who doesn't see her as either an "upstart child" or an untouchable princess.

And some people just like age gap ships. And some people especially like age gap ships that are primed for the younger member to be very much in the driver's seat, because inverted power dynamics can be interesting and fun. H/C is a gigantic fucking genre because nurting is a really powerful and common fantasy, and she's the one who heals him when he's literally broken (see also the Shuri/Bucky shippers). And she doesn't exactly sound put out about it when she teases T'Challa about the new broken white boy.

TLDR It's fine to hate it but it's not a totally out of left field 'why would anyone ever think of this' crack pairing. If people WEREN'T shipping Shuri/white dudes we'd be in for another round of 'black girls always get desexualized/aren't good enough for white hero cock or fan attention!!!' wank instead.
