I am really over the sanctimonious fits people throw about underage shipping in fandom spaces that are mainly filled with young women who are HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be predators or ever become predators, and are far more likely to be abuse survivors who cope with their trauma using the harmless space of fantasy. Please turn your rage toward the lawmakers and policies that are ACTUALLY hurting children and do some critical thinking exercises to learn a bit more about nuance and context.

this “using sexual fantasies about children to cope with trauma” argument keeps floating around but in my experience it’s more often used as either an outright excuse for pedophilia or a “gotcha!” if someone is called out for being gross about kids. i have yet to see any peer-reviewed studies to indicate that this is an actual recognized thing, and if it is, it is more often invoked online in a very disingenuous way.

Do you seriously think that most people who are into shipping and writing/thinking/talking about shipping a) aren't women and b) are likely to be sexual predators? Because a) they are and b) they aren't.
