You're definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place, OP, but if I was your friend, I'd want to be told. I generally pirate stuff because there's no way for me to get it legally, but I try to support indie stuff when I can because it's harder for indie authors who have to market their stuff to get sales and recognition.
