141. Harry Potter? Wayside School? Serendipity? Animorphs? Everworld? Babysitter's Club? Nancy Drew? The Hardy Boys? Encyclopedia Brown? Choose Your Own Adventure? Redwall? The Giver? Gathering Blue? The Lord of the Rings? Narnia? Tamora Pierce? Young Wizards? Neil Schusterman? TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN WTF. Do none of these books exist? What the heck have I been reading all my life? I would rather give my hypothetical daughter a copy of Final Fantasy X or The World Ends With You if I wanted her to grow a healthy sense of romantic love loooooooooooong before I gave her Twilight. Before that, I would read to her EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. Before she went to bed. My mom did that with a 9-7 job, two kids, and no husband to help support the family. And English is not her first language. Piss off, Twilight moms. Christ almighty.

148. I don't get that feeling at all. =/ Maybe that's just me, although I do feel as though she's missing out on a lot of teen life.
153. Bad move on the station's part. wtf idiocy.
156. ... Why am I curious?

141. AMELIA'S NOTEBOOK. I knew I forgot one.

[identity profile] lightpipe.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So much word regarding 141. Fuck.

[identity profile] rayerai.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
141. AMEN.

I'd give my hypothetical daughter fanfiction before I gave her Twilight.

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
D8 Amen to that. When I find fanfiction much more classy, compelling, thought-provoking, and thrilling than a published writer, something is amiss.

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear to God there was supposed to be an "'s" after the "writer".

141. What about Clue Books? And they made multiple Neverending Story books too, didn't they? Series of Unfortunate Events, that's another one... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy might be the wrong age group, but I think it deserves a place.

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
141. 8D; I only read the Clue Junior books but al;dfjs;lkajsdfj were they fun. I think there was only one Neverending story and many movies, but I'm probably wrong. 8'D ASoUE is a stunning book, and certainly one of my favorites today. The Guide is sort of the wrong age group, but yay for more amazing.

Terry Pratchett
Neil Gaiman

Welcome to the Ark

adlsfadfssdf;ks;flsdfklsjklsjkll There are just. Too many books. Flabbergasted. I just. Speechless, that I am. >>;

I kind of had a geekgasm just reading that list. But you better said what I tried to say (and forgot my point in my disgust): there is plenty of good YA literature out there for girls to read--yes, even the sparkly ones, give 'em BSC--without them having to read twaddle like Twilight.

And word to actually reading to your kids when they're young. It's not rocket science. Bravo to your mother.

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I know I grew up rather self-centered, and I know if I read self-centered pleasure trips like Twilight, it would've not helped with the attitude problem I had. =/ Also, on a side note, Meyer's sentence organization, structure, and word use are just terrible. She desperately needs a competent editor. I don't know. I just... don't know.

8'D I owe my mother for her persistence, at least. She also shipped us to the library, swimming lessons, piano lessons, tutoring, and Girl Scouts every week, all for free or reduced price due to her mad bargaining skills. We grew up poor, but she would be damned if she let us grow up uncultured.

I grew up reading Goosebumps. I liked watching Disney movies, but I always hated reading books like them because they always bored me =/

141. Boxcar Children

[identity profile] cosmic-evila.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. I loved the Boxcar Children when I was younger! Also, I'm so happy that you put Redwall on your list. I adored that book.

141

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know! =o I thought it was supposed to be one of those extra-famous books that everyone was supposed to read...
samuraiprosecutor: (How YOU doin'?)

[personal profile] samuraiprosecutor 2008-08-05 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I read it in school, but I haven't run into anyone since that remembered it. It's such an amazing book!
