107. Yeah, it never occurred to me that it was either, until f!s. I mean, you could go a bit academic with it, but at the end of the day, you have to admit that Light laughs maniacally while writing up people to die and has no remorse in killing people, even people who've become his friends. At the most, you can argue about whether he was a psychopath before the DN or if the DN itself just inherently makes someone like that (because he was so earnest about catching Kira when he memory-wiped).

110. Hm. Two new books to read, methinks.

119. What's it, and who's the chipper one on the left?

141. No. No. Quite simply Epic Fail. Forget "not cool." Try...excuse me, I'm so sickened that I'm having difficulty getting the words right. Try...weak, pathetic, and contributing to literary downfall...no, that's not getting it right either.
Look, if you want to like the book, fine. It will make me question your literary taste, especially if you've proven to be a reasonable reader before hand, but it's still what you like.
But to...excuse what is honestly absolutely wretched, my-kid-sister-could-do-as-well prose, to say nothing of the lame flat characters and mind-numbing plot because "it's gotten young girls to read"...That's just horrible.
Honestly, I'm tired of this "it doesn't matter what they're reading, at least they're reading" approach on children's literature. Why? Because you're going to write like you read. Heck, you'll probably think like you read. Taken as part of a well-balanced "diet," shall we say, of books, as nothing more than a bit of fluff, it's harmless enough. If that and others like it comprise the chief part of what a young girl reads, it's no better than mental poison. It sets the notion that this kind of writing is good, acceptable, and worst of all, imitable. If you read books and you like this one, fine. If this is the only type of book you're going to read, I'm not going to question your intellegence--I'm going to dismiss it entirely.

...I wish I could phrase that better, but it's midnight, and I'm hungry. But at any rate, HORRIBLE THOUGHT IS HORRIBLE.

145. Okay, I've only seen the first episode, but I have to ask...how is it canon? Really? If LoM all happened in Sam's head, and A2A is all happening in her head...then the only place where the two universes really overlap is in Sam's world, where she read the report. Other than that, it is her brain making fanfic for her.

Also, I didn't see the heels at first and thought she was jumping or something. Heh.

151. Oooh, what is it? So familiar...

154. I had a thing for Ling, but year, guy!Mulan was...well-drawn.

I think in some ways, a more interesting debate might be about L and his motives. He sees it as a game to be won just as much, or perhaps more, than he really cares about the people's lives.

I know it gets flung around fandom all the time, but since I don't really participate in fandom (most, if not all, of what I learned of DN I learned from living with my roomies and reading the first few)... I always figured L was autistic. All the signs are there, from there incredibly high intellegence to the having to sit just so, having to be barefoot, holding and eating his food to minimize tactile sensation, etc. So disregarding other humans doesn't seem like anything particularly malicious on his part (the way it was with Light) but more that it simply does not occur to him, and that even when confronted with the "hey, they're people too!" thing, he has difficulty keeping the idea of other people existing beyong how they will interact with or affect him and his plans in his mind.

I'm so embarrassed I know this but it's Home and Away, an Australian soap opera that has been running since 1988. Think Days of Our Lives in a small Australian beach town. My sister and I used to watch it to mock and play predict the plot twist.

From what I have gleaned from intermittent viewing over the past year, the one on the left is Geoff, a very very religious kid previously raised in the bush by a very strict grandpa. He is adjusting to life in town. The one on the right is Aiden, the captain of the footy team and Geoff's bully. He is a wanker. The potential for ship is definitely there, but I'm still getting my head around this ridiculous show having a fandom.
