(Anonymous) 2008-08-02 05:42 am (UTC)(link)I feel you. So very, very much. I'm in the exact same situation -- about to enlist in the Air Force. I want to be a soldier, I want to be a pilot, more than almost anything. You understand that same feeling better than anyone else, I bet. Though, I'm still depressed over leaving fandom; it's like abandoning an old friend.
Think about it, though -- while we're gone, fandom isn't going anywhere. That's the beauty of it. Sure, once we leave for basic, things will change. We can't pop on LJ once every ten minutes to see if anyone's posted something new and we can't update at our leisure. But while we're out there, we'll be doing the things that other people dream about. And when we get back, we'll have plenty of inspiration (and plenty of free weekends on which to catch up on what's good, without having to wait through dry spells for new material!).
