I don't even like the stereotype that every girl has some clothes lying around that she never wears.

I'm in that stereotype. Half of the items are for specific types of events and half are of the "omg what was I thinking?" variety.

I don't think it's a stereotype but something that's quite common?
Like, if your weight varies (mine does) there are clothes you keep but don't wear for a long time, impulse buying is a thing you can regret later, people might gift you something you aren't that fond of...
