I remember starting one of his books in curiosity and barely got through the first chapter before I closed it in disgust. He was talking about an experience eating this cultural delicacy in another country that involves tormented, abused animals (not that the meat that we eat is any better really) and it made me hate the guy ever since. I'm wondering what book of his you read that actually made you like him, and if it's the same book, I'm seriously side-eyeing you right now.

OP

Kitchen Confidential. Loved the book, not so much the man. That's why I can't understand why I feel so guilty.

I'm not sure I understand. You acknowledged that he engaged in eating practices that are on par with your own, but you hate him anyway? That seems rather hypocritical.

Who said they're like my own. I'm vegan.

Other cultures do sometimes have bad practices when it comes to the animals they use for meat, hide & steer. But you just straight up admitted that the meat industry is just as bad everywhere else, in what I assume was a reference to the treatment of animals used for fast food and restaurant meat! So did you honestly have to add in that unnecessarily judgemental "side-eye" comment? Enjoying reading a book about Bourdain experiencing delicacies in different cultures doesn't mean OP endorses the treatment those animals go through!

I'm a vegan because I personally can't rationalize eating meat and dairy for the exact reasons you hate Bourdain so much. But leaping in to judge OP, or anyone for that matter, for such a tenuous reason is ridiculous to me.
