(Anonymous) 2018-06-23 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)You might get charged with possession because viewing or owning those images was a coping mechanism for something bad that happened to you. It doesn't make viewing or possession legal, and it doesn't make it okay to have viewed or possessed, but it does make you (the struggling and flawed human being who's trying to be get by) more sympathetic.
Or maybe it just makes you someone who grew up in a society that didn't inherently teach you these things weren't okay.
I guess this is my way of saying that knowledge of a criminal conviction doesn't always strictly affect my view of a person or their work. There are a lot of factors that go into something being a good person or a bad person, I don't think "having a criminal conviction" is a clear indicator of one side or another (ask the Americans who've been charged with possession of the drug recently legalized in Canada).
