This seems to be true. Nothing wrong with incorporating your beliefs into your art but whenever someone puts their Cause ahead of the quality of their work, the results tend to be what you expect. Hence the reason why so much conservative evangelical art is bad, everything has to preach a blatant and literal minded moral lesson according to a very strict guideline. And conforming to this is slightly more important than doing your very best work.
