The vast majority of shows are far too afraid of being weird. I'll take weirdness and interesting characters over a show that's tightly plotted but always makes the safe choice.

I respect the hell out of shows that are willing to take risks and be weird. I respect the hell out of Farscape.

But... I don't really like watching the show. And the reality is, if a show is taking risks, that's great, but that doesn't mean that the risk is going to appeal to me personally.

I would agree that it's not objectively unenjoyable.

I think it probably is overrated, in the sense that the only people who talk or think about Farscape at all are the people who were fans of it - the people that it *completely* hit for and who loved it to death. Which, nothing wrong with that, but it's very slightly annoying if you're in one of the few parts of Internet fandom that has a lot of people who are super into Farscape.

I wouldn't typically associate a cult following with overratedness. Otherwise I would have to classify nearly every canon as overrated, because nearly every canon has a group of fans who give it more praise than it deserves.

But I guess the weirdness of the show is not to everyone's taste and that's fine. However, it was too weird FOR YOU (and for others too likely). There's not an objective measurment of autorized weirdness for a show. Also, I've seen or heard of much much weirder show.

And I disagree that it's overated in the sense that, while it's not a complete unknown and as a solid fanbase (but not that huge either), plenty of people either don't know it at all or have only vaguely heard of it. But maybe I'm misunderstanding the meaning of "overated".

Each to their own, OP. I loved the show, and Aeryn Sun is probably my favorite character ever. But, in fairness, I discovered the show after it aired, and so I got to binge the whole four seasons + movie in a relatively short amount of time. That might have changed the experience for me.

I loved the weirdness of it though. It did get a bit much at times, but on the whole it just worked for me. I don’t know how to explain it. Whenever I watch Guardians of the Galaxy, I feel so much Farscape nostalgia (not accidental, I know; James Gunn is a Farscape fan). But I feel like Farscape did it better. I know that’s heresy. Or maybe I just like Ben Browder way better than Chris Pratt.

I kind of thought the weirdness was kind of the point.

I don't disagree but at the same time I can see and respect that it was a pretty creative show. I tried watching it, because I wanted something different from what everyone flailed over (Star Trek and Firefly mostly) but I just couldn't get into it. I don't know why because the costume porn and the quirky characters should have been right up my alley but something about it fell short. I have yet to identify what.

Different weird. I think Farscape had better, more coherent stories than Lexx.
