I did get the sense that we were supposed to be sympathetic to Mr. Rochester and find his darkness ~romantic, I definitely don't get that feeling from Heathcliff and Cathy. They're awful but hilarious and entertaining as fuck in a way I don't think many authors at the time would let their characters be (seriously how can you not crack up at the scene where Cathy's pretending to have fits and Nelly catches her faking). I love that Wuthering Heights shows how dramatic, destructive and delusional people can be even when they live in relative solitude and peace.
