Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

Post them here!

Recently i watched The Last Jedi and during the movie I went from thinking Adam Driver was hideous to thinking he's incredibly hot. I still have no idea what happened.

I think it's just a matter of exposure. It takes a while for the brain to normalize his features and then, snap!, "oh, actually there's something about him..."

He took off his shirt.

Okay, yeah, there's that too.

Dumbledore didn't do anything wrong

(well, OK, the Grindelwald stuff wasn't great)(and he could have been nicer about some of it)(but he wasn't a villain like some people make out)

Yes. Agreed.

To my mind he did plenty of things wrong, but yeah, he wasn't a villain, and he was usually doing what he thought was the best thing for the situation. He just wasn't always right about what that might be.

What, specifically, was he wrong/unjustified about, though?

A lot of what he does as a teacher, headmaster and carer for children I would consider less than ideal. Leaving Harry with the Dursleys was badly mishandled. Blood protection only justifies so much, and there's a difference between allowing a child to be raised humble and allowing a child to be raised abused. How he manages and fails to manage the house rivalries in Hogwarts also has a fair few knock-on consequences. The Shrieking Shack incident was incredibly badly handled, and that wound up basically deciding the first war and a significant portion of the second. The House Cup in Harry's first year also did nothing to close the gap between houses, which was very badly timed given Voldemort's resurgence. The fact that he seems to hire teachers relative to the war effort (hi Snape) rather than relative to their ability to actually teach children is also a problem. He also consistently fails to tell people important things until after the fact, with occasionally fatal consequences (hi Snape again). I mean, some of these aren't the worst way to handle things, but they also really aren't the best.

He was in the wrong a fair few times, imo. The Shrieking Shack, leaving Harry with the Dursleys, the first year House Cup, his last gambit with Snape having pretty much no failsafes whatsoever. He's a pretty decent general, especially for a shadow war, and he's trying to get the best outcome possible, but he's honestly NOT the best teacher or someone I would trust with children. Or adults, a lot of the time. For someone who's so widely respected he seems to have surprisingly little ability to properly judge social situations and consequences.

I don't think he did anything wrong that he didn't repent for. Harry Potter fandom is so extra about Dumbledore.

He did a lot of things wrong. He tried to do good, and that counts for a lot, but he did a lot of things wrong.

I'll probably get around to making some of them eventually. Maybe. But, here goes.

I think Shawn Spencer/Carlton Lassiter would have been canon if Lassiter had been a female character because their dynamic is almost identical to the dynamic between Castle and Beckett on Castle.

Martin Starr's body of work contributed to my mental breakdown but also really helped put things into perspective for me and allowed me to forgive my mom for a bunch of really triggering shit I wish she'd handled differently when I was a kid and I wish I could like write him a letter thanking him for his incredible acting work and praise his choices to take such interesting roles and stuff. I just love him.

My favorite ridiculous crossover headcanon is that Phoebe Buffay from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is Donald "Jared" Dunn, from Silicon Valley's, birth mother.

I mean... there's plenty of different shipping dynamics that exist, it's not like there's only thing. It's a dynamic that they could have made canon if they wanted to, or not.

Obviously, the actual reason that they didn't is because of The Gayness, and it's hard to ignore that there's a lot of shippy moments esp in the first few seasons, but it's not like their relationship is intrinsically a romantic narrative at all.

Down w this 100%

I loooove ShawnLassie and I really do feel like Jules was sort of... put in there to take away from the flirtiness between the two of them, even though I love Jules too, I just prefer Shawn and Lassie's relationship (and by relationship I mean their interactions, friendship, wish that the showrunners had actually Gone There).

I'm becoming this ball of insecurity about my own taste in movies. It's one thing to be able to have fun with films that are almost universally despised because the narrative elements hit some tropes you like or whatever, but I find myself thinking these movies are BEATIFULLY MADE sometimes and then encountering so much critical response about them being complete and total messes.

Honestly, I think a lot of film critics just don't know what they're talking about at all

I want either Dennis Reynolds or Glenn Howerton to sing Bowie songs to me in the Electric Dream Machine costume. And he'd better do those moves too.

No one can do justice to Bowie's moves!

I loved The Last Jedi when I saw it and I love it more now. It's not a perfect movie but it's wonderful and everything I could ever want a Star Wars movie to be, and I find the hate for it baffling.

Reposting in the right thread ( r smrt)

F/GO series; I used to love Saber (original Saber) but then the franchise grew too big and she became the literal Pikachu of the series, clones among clones included. I know people only bother with the series because of her (I admittedly was one of them) and I don't hate her but I'm tired of seeing her face literally everywhere. You could say I'm face-tired of her?

Warhammer Fantasy is much better and more interesting than WH40K

Loki from the first Thor movie and the guy from The Room look so similar to me I thought they were related. I've been meaning to make this secret for a long time but just too lazy.
