I love fireworks shows! I'm going to see one tonight. I also like watching private individuals' fireworks, but it's been a long time since I lived high up enough and with an unobstructed enough view to see them.

The place I'm staying at rn, people have been setting them off every night for the past three weeks. I like watching the shows, but I hate the noise if I'm not expecting it. Freaks me the fuck out.

A proper city fireworks display? I'm all for it. They can be fun and cool and it only happens on the holiday itself (or the night before, depending on how many city/town displays may be happening at that time).

Some yahoo shooting them off in their yard at 2 in the morning (or during the daylight hours, for some reason)? Not so much.

I like them, but only if they're far away. My next door neighbors like to set off fireworks and the booms make me (and my dog) really anxious.

My number one guilty pleasure because, yeah, they pollute, they're dangerous, they're a waste of money, and a lot of people and pets have honest to god problems with them. There's still nothing else that wakes my childish excitement like that, except for rollercoasters.

I love actual fireworks shows. I'm annoyed by all these other assholes that have been setting off their own and firing guns since the weekend.

I don't like them. I honestly find fireworks shows very boring to watch, and they scare my dog as well.

I like professional shows, organized and quality and carefully scheduled. I like giant pyrotechnics that go boom, especially when well-choreographed.

I fucking hate every dickhead with a lighter up and down the street who thinks that shooting off bottlerockets for days or weeks around any holiday in which flags might be waved is cool. They're boring, they're loud and annoying, they scare pets, and they could start fires, not to mention they leave litter in other people's yards. Special middle finger to the dude somewhere up the street last night shooting off huge illegal ones, fuck you in particular you classless fuck. If only the cops would actually do something when you call in a report of illegal fireworks.

Eh too loud for my liking and I don't consider them worth the time to wait somewhere to watch, especially since the only time we light fireworks where I live is in the middle of winter, like no thanks to waiting in the cold for that.

I enjoy them but I wouldn't enjoy going out of my way to see them on a hot, crowded, sweaty night. Luckily this year I can watch them from my roof.

Ableism question

Long story short, mom needs hearing aids and refuses to get them. Not for any reason other than pride. I know for sure it's not medical because multiple doctors recommended she get them because it will fix her hearing problems and I know for sure it's not money because she can very well afford them and I've even offered to pay for them for her. She won't hear of it, pun not intended, and gets mad when the rest of the family don't yell loudly enough for her to hear us when we're talking and insists we repeat ourselves over and over until we're loud enough. If we refuse to do so, she's offended and sulks. She was not born deaf, is not part of deaf culture, does not identify as deaf, it's normal age-related hearing issues.

Is it ableist to refuse to accommodate in this situation?

someone, too boost their views or whatever, is reuploading episodes of a panel show I like from about a year ago, but dated as though these are the current, NEW episodes. Every time I accidentally click one and realize ... nope, nope, I've seen this, I get this irrational anger. I mean, on the one hand, the uploader is being a bit of a dick, but on the other hand, hey, here's me thinking "whaaaaaaaaa, I can't get exactly what I want for free and for pretty much zero effort". And on the third hand (I've got a lot of hands) there's this annoyance that even if I WANTED to pay for the thing, there's no sane way for me to do it (I don't live in the country it's broadcast, and since it's mainly topical humor by the time I can get a DVD or other access it'll be outdated like whoa).

So probably like... five years ago, I wrote a ton of online articles on Hubpages with the goal of being ~professional~. Within like a month, I had pumped out like 50 original articles. Usually about stupid stuff - my hobbies, travel, whatever. I put GoogleAds on them, waiting for the money to come in... and like four months later I had made approximately a dollar, haha. I haven't logged into that site in years, but as traffic sort of gathered a bit more, I would occasionally get the $50 minimum payout. Couple times a year. Then every few months. Now I just looked at my paypal and apparently I'm making a consistent extra $60 every month. Totally crazy that I'm still making money off of these silly articles.

And what's more shocking is that several independent people within the past few months have told me they "saw my article online". Those articles didn't even have my real name, just a username with a photo of 21-year-old me. Dude. I'm basically a pro writer now and mega famous, lmao. Living the dream and making the big bucks.
