I know what you mean. It's good sometimes, and I respect that people are trying to be experimental, but a lot of the time it just feels like... de rigeur? And not actually as deep or poignant or interesting as the person wants it to be? Like people are just copying the format without knowing why.

One of Stewart Lee's comedy specials (Carpet Remnant World) has a really entertaining bit that's essentially a parody of this whole thing, which I liked a lot.
