Exactly. There's a character in one of my fandoms like this, actually - I have nothing against her personality and I probably would have liked her otherwise, I just hate the way the writers tossed out everything that was interesting about her (and she actually started out as being an interesting, dynamic character who had a lot of potential) in favor of having a huge portion of her characterization revolve around her crush on a guy who is completely oblivious to her feelings.

I don't hate the character, I hate the way she was written, but it's impossible to divorce the way she was written from her as a character. Whether it was the fault of the writers or not, I dislike what her characterization is.
