I want to buy my plane tickets and hotel but the internet says I should wait to buy the plane tickets 3 months from the trip and the hotel 1 month from the trip for cheapest costs. BUT WHAT IF I CAN'T GET A GOOD EARLY FLIGHT? Or the hotel I want to be at. D:::::::

It's really a question of what you're trying to optimize for.

A balance of both. :(

If you can get the flight and hotel you want now, and you feel the prices now are reasonable and within budget, and you are certain of your travel plans, then I say just go for it. That way, you don't have worry about it or remember to do it later. That peace of mind is worth something. Also, depending on the price of the flight and hotel, any savings you could get by scheduling at a particular time may not actually amount to much. Saving hundreds of dollars would be one thing, but saving tens of dollars on a multi-hundred dollar vacation isn't much of a savings. Also, there are other ways to save money on travel, like with food and ground transportation, and finding activities that are free.

I looked at tickets and the hotel two months from now and it seemed to have openings. And two months from now is a pretty busy time.

Will your travel insurance cover changes or cancellations if you book further out than 90 days? Usually they will only cover a trip planned that far in advance if it's a package cruise holiday.

I don't have travel insurance. I know my credit card has some kind of protections. Let me look at them.

I am going through the same thing. I probably should not buy 11 months before though, so I'm trying to calm myself down.

It is exciting to have something to look for.
