As a corollary to this, there are some movies that I have actively regretted seeing in the theater, particularly ones that were in my native language but subtitled in the language of the country I live in. It's super shitty to be the only one in the theater to laugh at a joke a few seconds before everyone else. Makes so so self-conscious and hurts my enjoyment of the movie.
